Attaching a tool to a holder for FMS in PartMaker/SwissCAM and Turn-Mill

When using Full Machine Simulation, PartMaker performs the following steps to mount the tool onto the holder and then mount the holder onto the tool post:

Note: When setting up models for Full Machine Simulation, ensure you adhere to the rules for using solid models in Full Machine Simulation.
  1. The tool is rotated so that the tool axis (assumed to be parallel to the shank of the tool) aligns with the Holder to Tool Attachment Direction () specified for the station data set up in the Holder Data dialog:

  2. The tool is then attached to the holder, as shown below. The Attachment Point of the Tool is based on the tool's geometry. The point, Holder to Tool Attachment Point defined in the Holder Data dialog, specifies where the tool attaches to the holder in the holder's coordinate system.

  3. The holder model with the tool(s) attached and the holder data are then rotated so that the Holder to Tool Post Attachment Direction (shown in orange below), specified in the Holder Data dialog, aligns with the Tool Post to Holder Attachment Direction (shown in magenta), which is specified in the Tool Post Layout dialog. The holder then rotates about its Holder Attachment Orientation by its Holder Orientation Angle as specified in the Holder Data dialog.

  4. The holder is then attached to the tool post. The attachment point on the holder is taken from the holder’s Holder to Tool Post Attachment Point specified in the Holder Data dialog with reference to the Holder Coordinate System (the holder origin is shown below in Yellow). The attachment point on the tool post is taken from the Holder to Tool Post Attachment Point specified in the Tool Post Layout dialog with reference to the Tool Post Reference Point (shown as intersecting red, blue and green lines).
