Tool Post Layout dialog (PartMaker)

Use the Tool Post Layout dialog to specify how the holder or tool is mounted to the tool post.

Tip: If you want PartMaker to automatically calculate this information, select the Automatically Calculated option for Tool Locations on the Tool Post Properties - Gang dialog or the Tool Post Properties - Turret dialog.

To display this dialog, click the Tool Post Layout button on the following dialogs:

The following settings are available:

Use Holder — Select this option if a holder is required for the currently selected tool. When this option is selected, PartMaker displays ? in the Holder ID and Holder Name fields on the Tool Assembly dialog (SwissCAM and Turn-Mill) to remind you to select a holder for this tool, however, you can select a holder for tools that do not have this option selected if you wish.

On Rotary Attachment — Select this option if the selected tool number is located on a rotary attachment. This option is available only in PartMaker/SwissCAM for gang tool posts that can rotate about the B-axis, as specified on the Machine Data dialog.

Attachment Point and Direction (Tool Post to Holder or Tool Post to Tool) — Use the X, Y, and Z fields to specify the attachment point of the tool or holder to the tool post.

Note: This direction is designated when the tool post has been rotated into the machining orientation.

Direction — Specify a direction axis, defined with respect to the Tool Post Coordinate System, which originates at the Tool Post to Holder Attachment Point/Tool Post to Tool Attachment Point. When using a holder, this axis corresponds to the Holder Attachment Orientation specified on the Holder Data dialog.

Note: This direction is designated when the tool post has been rotated into the machining orientation.

Set Attachment Point — Click to display the Attachment Information dialog, where you can specify coordinates by selecting a location on the solid model.

Tool Number — This lists the tools available for the tool post. The range of tool numbers is based on the Tool Range specified in the Machine Data dialog. Select a tool from the list to view information about the tool post layout for that tool.

Set Same Attachment Point for All — Click this button to apply the Attachment Point for the currently selected tool number to all the tool numbers listed. This is intended for tool posts where all holders attach in the same position when the tool post is rotated.

Set Same Direction for All — Click to apply the Holder Attachment Direction for the currently selected tool number to all the tool numbers listed. This is intended for tool posts where all holders attach in the same orientation when the tool post is rotated.

Tool Extension Length — Enter the length of a turning tool's shank that extends into the specified tool post. This is available only when Use Holder is not selected.

Tool Post Preview — Click to display a 3D model of the tool post, so you can preview how it appears during simulation.
