Presets and Styles

Use presets and styles to apply pre-existing animation and attributes to characters.

  • Presets are complete setups saved either on disk or in the Explorer. Use the former for setups to be used in multiple projects. Use the latter for setups useful only in a particular project.
  • Type Styles are smaller setups containing only a subset of attributes and axis transformations, without any animation.



Saving and Loading Presets

Type setups can be saved as presets at the Shared or User levels.

To save a Type setup on disk:

  1. Click Save.
  2. Select Presets from the file type drop-down.
  3. Select Setup from the Presets type drop-down.
  4. Select whether to save the preset at the Shared or User level.

The entire setup is saved, including all layers.

To load a Type preset:

  1. Click Presets.
  2. Select Setup from the Presets type drop-down.
  3. Select the Shared or User visibility.
  4. Select the Type setup in the file browser.

or

  1. Click on the drop-down associated with the Presets button.
  2. Select the Type setup from the Setup submenu under the Shared or User section.

When loading a type preset, three options are offered if at least one layer or character was selected:

  • Apply: The characters' attributes and axis transformations are applied to the selected layers and characters.
  • Append: The layers from the presets are appended to the existing layers.
  • Replace: The layers from the preset replace the existing layers.
Tip: Set the text addition mode to Overwrite if you first load the preset and want to modify the characters afterward. For more information, see Overwriting Text.



Styles

A Type Style is a setup that contains the following character attributes, without any animation:

  • Font
  • Font Style
  • Size
  • Opacity
  • Italic
  • Tracking
  • Kerning
  • Fill Active
  • Fill Colour
  • Underline Active
  • Underline Width
  • Underline Offset Y
  • Outline Colour
  • Outline Width
  • Outline Join Type and Miter
  • Font Case
  • Background Active
  • Background Colour
  • Background Opacity
  • Background Radius
  • Background Offset
  • Background Scale
  • Background Outline
  • Shadow Colour
  • Shadow Opacity
  • Shadow Blur
  • Shadow Axis Transformations
  • Characters Axis Transformations

A Type Style can be saved in two places: the Explorer or on disk. The former is useful to apply a style to other text layers in the same project; the latter is useful for storing style presets to be used in any project.

To save a Type Style to the Explorer:

  1. Select the character with the style you want to save.

  2. Open the layer's context menu.

  3. Select one of the options in the Save Style to Explorer submenu.

  4. Optional: Give a name to the Type Style.

    The Type Style is added to the Explorer. The thumbnail shows a preview of the style and Font, Font Style, and Size information.



When you want to quickly apply the character attributes from a Type Style to different characters, select an entire layer or specific characters, and use one of these methods.

To load a Style from the Explorer, either:

  • Double-click on the Style tile.
  • Drag the Style tile to the viewport.
