Project Management Window

The Project Management window has been redesigned to offer more functionalities and new ways to select projects.

Highlights include:

  • Creating project templates.
  • Displaying projects in a List or Tiles view.
  • Assigning thumbnails to projects.
  • Showing only recently opened projects.
  • Defining a default name for new workspaces.
  • Providing more controls over project conversion.

See The Project Management Window for more details.

Custom Locations for the Project Home, Setups Directory, and Media Cache

The location of the project's home, setups directory, and managed media cache can be defined per project, providing more flexibility to the configuration of your work environment.

See Project Settings for more details.

Host-Based PostgreSQL Database

When installing the application or the Project server, PostgreSQL (a Database Management System or DBMS) is installed. This database is used for Cache and Renders management. A single database is required to store the information for all the projects you will create on your host. The database is Flame Family version agnostic. In a workgroup environment, administrators might prefer to use a Project server instead of a local database, since there is no obligation to create a local database. It is also possible to work in a mixed local and remote database environment as in previous versions of Flame Family products. PostgreSQL version 17 is used.

This new infrastructure adds the following functionalities:

  • No more 8-volume limit as with Stone+Wire.
  • Project-based Cache and Renders, enabling easier data management.
  • Automatic configuration for small studios and freelancers who do not need an extra level of security.
  • Improved security using users and groups access for secured projects, as well as encrypted network communication.
  • Command-line tools for studios to ease the deployment of Flame Family products.

Workspaces, Desktops, Libraries, and Shared Libraries are not saved in the database.

Installing a Flame Family product creates a flame_db user on your workstation. This user is the only one who can manage the various database operations like:

  1. Creating a Certificate Authority.
  2. Creating and deleting a database.
  3. Adding and removing user access to the database with certificates.
  4. Adding and removing groups to/from the database.

See Database Creation for more details.
