A view displaying the ground level and water levels can be generated by drawing a section through a network or a simulation when a Ground Model is loaded on the GeoPlan Window. If the network or simulation includes a 2D zone for which a mesh has been generated, the 2D zone mesh element heights can also be displayed.
The section can be drawn anywhere and in any direction; it does not have to follow features of the hydraulic model. InfoWorks ICM interpolates the ground level from the ground model.
- Ground model
- Ground fill
- Flood level
- Mesh ground level
The water level displayed in the section is calculated from the water surface generated in River Reach, Storage Area and 2D Meshes.
Note that if the drawn section crosses directly on top of a network object, such as a node, InfoWorks ICM will not interrogate the node about water levels. There may therefore be slight differences between, for example, water level displayed in the section view for a simulation and the water level calculated at the node itself.
If you have generated a section view for a simulation, the section can be used to view time varying results during a simulation replay.
To generate a section view
- Open an InfoWorks network or a simulation in the GeoPlan Window.
- Load a Ground Model into the GeoPlan.
- Click New Section View (
) from the More GeoPlan Tools Toolbar to turn on Section View mode.
- Draw the section on the GeoPlan:
- Click on the start point of the section.
- Click to add additional points.
- Click to add the end point of the section.
- Finally, double click to complete the section. (The point where you double click is not included in the section.)
A dashed blue line is displayed on the GeoPlan as the section is drawn. Points are drawn as blue squares. The points are drawn in a lighter shade of blue at the first point to a darker shade of blue at the last point to indicate the direction of the section.
- InfoWorks ICM displays the section ground level in a Section View Window. A strip plan of the drawn section, identifying the position of points along the section, is displayed at the top of the window.
The Section Properties dialog allows you to decide how network parameters are represented in the view.
Section view options
Right-click in the section window to display a context menu with the following options.
(These commands can also be selected from the Section menu when a Section View is the currently active view).
Flip View |
Flip the section view horizontally, which reverses the direction in which the section is being viewed. |
Export to AutoCAD DWG |
Save the current section view to DWG format. The section view can then be opened and viewed in AutoCAD. |
Properties |
Displays the Section Properties dialog, where changes can be made to the way in which the section view is displayed, such as inclusion of ground level and mesh element levels, and customisation of ground fill and flood level colours. |
Moving around the view
The following icons on the toolbar allow you to move around the Section view:
Zoom In |
Click
|
Zoom Out |
Click

Alternatively, the mouse scroll wheel can be used to zoom in and out on the Section View.
