Using the Object Properties window

The Object Properties window provides a way of displaying an object property sheet; that is, all the data / properties for a single network object in a structured way. By default, the data is divided into customisable groups showing data of similar type. Some data is common to more than one type of object.

Accessing the Object Properties window

  • Click the Properties (Properties) icon on the Tools toolbar, then select an object on the GeoPlan.

    Alternatively:

  • Select Window Object properties window. In this case, the window may initially be blank: it will be populated when you click the Properties (Properties) icon and select an object on the GeoPlan.

Editing network object or results properties

To select a value, click it once. You can edit it by:

  • Overwriting it and typing a new value in the box, or
  • Right-clicking and selecting an option from the context menu.

Changes are immediately applied at the end of each field edit and you will not be prompted to save any changes when you close the Object Properties window.

You can also copy/paste values.

For flags, you can select a flag value from the drop-down list.

Selecting objects on GeoPlan

Where there is a drop-down list of network objects in the Object properties window, the Select on GeoPlan option may be available from the list. This option allows you to select network objects on the GeoPlan, which will populate that certain field.

Changing the order of properties within a group

  • Grab the property and drag it to its new position.

    Alternatively:

  • Right-click the property and choose Move row up or Move row down.

Fields (properties) and groups can be moved. Groups can also be added, renamed or deleted (when they are not collapsed).

  3. Click OK.

This changes the Object Properties window to its layout view.

  4. Make changes to the layout as required:
    • Drag group and property rows to positions above or below their current positions.
    • Use options on the context menu to add, delete, or rename selected groups.

Your layouts are overwritten by the database layouts.

Pushing local layouts to the database

Object Properties window layouts can be updated on the database. This ability may be restricted to database owners.

  2. Click the Configuration (Configuration) tool in the Object Properties window, then select Layout Save.
  3. Click the Configuration (Configuration) tool, then select Layout Push all to database.
  4. In the Open/Create Layout Name dialog, click OK.

A message warns you that the existing database layouts are about to be overwritten and that proceeding with this operation will impact every database user.

  5. In the message box, click OK.

The local layouts overwrite the database layouts.

Standardising layouts across database users

It is possible to standardise layouts across all workgroup database users. Depending on whether permissions have been implemented in the database, the first three steps may be reserved to database owners.

  1. Make the desired changes to the Object Properties window layouts.
  2. Click the Configuration (Configuration) tool in the Object Properties window, then select Layout Save.
  3. Push your local layouts to the database, as described in Pushing local layouts to the database.
  4. Ask the other users of the workgroup database to get the updated layouts onto their own machines. For this, they will need to use the Layout Update all from database option. See Updating layouts from the database.

All users are now using the standardised layouts.
