Instance geometry workflow example

This example demonstrates how to use XGen to a forest scene with grass, rocks, and trees.

It shows you how to do the following:

  • Instance default archive geometry.
  • Export a Maya Paint Effects tree to an archive object.
  • Use a points map to determine the placement of instanced archive objects.
  • Use a Ptex map to remove archive primitives from the scene.
  • Use expressions to vary the size and orientation of instanced geometry.
Important: Before starting, make sure that you set the location of your Maya project. XGen creates a number of files, such as Ptex map files, that need to be referenced from the Maya project directory.
