Manage an item that is moved to a new location
Items may move over the course of the development of a product within a project. It may be the case that you have laid out your project BOM in a way you assumed it would stay throughout the project so you could submit orders for items that take a long time to receive (ie. long lead items). It may then turn out that the items you’ve ordered have moved to a new location (ie. a 'kitting change') in your final project BOM. The Project management dashboard would show 0% Requisitioned beside these items because they were not originally ordered in this specific location.
A kitting change on its own does not involve any design changes, so there is no need to return the item and order it again. In this case, you want to move the H quantity that was recorded against the item at its previous location to the same item in its new location, so that the Project management dashboard displays the correct % Requisitioned.
Requirements
Items that you want to redistribute must:
- Exist or have historically existed within the same End item as the End Item sent to the change notice (CN) you're about to create.
- Have had an H quantity recorded against it (ie. the CN workflow contains the System primitive with Type configured as Create mbom and clear locks and it successfully completed).
To redistribute an H quantity to an item:
Send the End Item under which the item has moved to a new change notice.
A new CN is created. Note that the H Qty column is completely empty beside the moved items.
(Optional) Click Show Orphaned.
The Orphaned Items window opens. Switch to the Full list view. Each item is shown with a warning symbol beside it indicating that the anomaly has not yet been resolved. This window also shows the kitting location of the items when they were previously ordered. You do not need to open this window but it can be useful to confirm that you do indeed still have orphans that may be redistributed to other items. Close the window.
Select the box beside the item that has previously been ordered in a different location.
This populates the R Qty column with the default value of P quantity - H quantity. However, this item is not being ordered; you will 'move' or 'redistribute' the H quantity recorded against its previous location to its current location in the BOM in the following steps.
Choose a workflow from the Workflow drop-down list and click Save.
Click Redistribute Items.
This opens a window that details what H quantities have been redistributed from their old locations to their new locations.
Close this window.
The Move Qty column is populated and the R Qty column is empty. A lock now appears beside each item that indicates you can no longer deselect the item because it has a populated Move quantity.
Note: You cannot make any changes to the items that have been redistributed at this point. If you made any errors, you must discard the CN and create a new one.Tip: Hover your cursor over the Move Qty value to see a tooltip that explains what type of move was performed.(Optional) Insert a note beside each item you are returning.
(Optional) Select any other items that need to be ordered (or returned) at this time.
Ensure the CN Type is set to Regular Requisition.
Start the workflow.
Once the workflow has been completed, the Requisitioned column on the Project Management dashboard updates to show the items have been 100% Requisitioned.
