Work with a workflow
A workflow is the series of steps and processes that govern the lifecycle of an object. Each step in the workflow is called a primitive and performs specific functions, including changing the status of the object, performing checks on items, sending notifications, and creating tasks. Workflows ensure that the right work is sent to the right person at the right time , in the right sequence , and with the right information.
Workflows are configured for the following six objects in Upchain:
- Investigation requests — governs the lifecycle of an IR
- Project — governs the lifecycle of a project
- Change notices — governs the lifecycle of a CN
- Change requests — governs the lifecycle of a CR
- Tasks — governs the lifecycle of a task
- Documents - governs the lifecycle of a Document (not including cBOM, Drawings, or Translations)
To help you get started, Upchain provides all tenants with six out-of-the-box workflows - these can be viewed in the System workflows tab. These workflows provide a basic structure for each of the above objects to follow.
However, it is likely your company has specific workflows that you would like to use. You can create and manage your own workflows in the Tenant workflows tab.
