Thin Client - Get Started

Learn the basics of the Vault Thin Client.

The Thin Client is a browser extension of the Vault Client designed for quickly viewing your vaulted data. To use the Thin Client, sign into your Vault database, installed on an Autodesk Data Management Server Console.

Note: You must have a data management server account to sign in. Contact your vault administrator for your account and server information.

Vault Compatibility

The Thin Client is compatible with Vault Professional only. There is no subscription or license requirement for Thin Client.

Browser Compatibility

Make sure your browser meets the Thin Client's requirements before signing in. Consult the System Requirements to learn more about Thin Client browser compatibility.

Sign in to the Thin Client

Sign in with your username and password. If an account has not been set up for you, contact your administrator.

Note: Your administrator can also import a Windows Active Directory account. With an Active Directory account, you can sign in using your Windows account credentials.

  1. In the browser's address field, enter the URL for the Thin Client. The format for the Thin Client URL is http://<servername>/AutodeskTC/<vaultname>.

    1. <servername> represents either the IP address or the name of the computer hosting Autodesk Data Management Server. If you do not know the name of the server, consult your system administrator.

    2. <vaultname> represents the vault instance that you are accessing.

      You can switch to a different vault by selecting the vault in the sign in screen (step 2). The vault name in the URL changes upon selecting a vault.

      You can also change vaults in the Thin Client interface after signing in to the Thin Client. If you do not know the name of the vault, consult your system administrator. .

  2. You can choose a vault to connect from the list of all available vaults.

  3. Enter your user credentials, depending on the authentication method:

    • Autodesk Vault Account: Enter the username and password for the Autodesk Data Management Server account assigned to you by your system administrator and click Sign in to Vault.

      Note: If the administrator has enforced a password policy and your current password does not meet the requirements, you will receive a prompt to change your Vault account password. Login via Thick Client or contact your administrator to change the Vault account password.

    • Windows Authentication: Click Windows Account, enter your Active Directory username and password in the window that appears, and then click OK.

    Note: Ensure you are logging into the Autodesk Data Management Server (ADMS). Logging into the Autodesk Vault File Store (AVFS) Server is currently not supported for Vault Thin Client.

Sign out of the Thin Client

To sign out of the Thin Client:

  1. Click the Profile icon in the upper right corner of the page.
  2. Click Sign Out.
