Work with a custom 3D model

Use Add Custom 3D Model to assign a custom 3D model to a component or element in schematic or board. If there is an existing reference to a 3d model, it is ignored in favor of the custom 3D model.

Add a custom 3D model

  1. On the Schematic Design or PCB Design Edit toolbar, click Add Custom 3D Model Add Custom 3D Model icon.

  2. In the canvas, click the component handle.

    A warning message appears informing you that the custom 3D model is added to the active document only. It is not added to the library. Click OK to dismiss the warning message.

  3. Save the component to the desired location.

    You can create an alternate 3D model in Fusion, import a STEP file, or use the 3D Package Generator to create the custom model. In this example, we will use the 3D Package Generator.

  4. Click the 3D Package Generator tool and scroll the list to select one to work with.

  5. Adjust the specifications and other details based on your requirements and then click Add.

  6. Click Finish and save the model to return to the schematic or PCB document.

Edit a custom 3D model

  1. On the Schematic Design or PCB Design Edit toolbar, click Edit Custom 3D Model Edit Custom 3D Model icon.
  2. In the canvas, click the handle of the component with the custom 3D model assigned.
  3. Click the 3D Package Generator tool and scroll the list to select one to work with.
  4. Adjust the specifications and other details based on your requirments, and then click Update.
  5. Click Finish and Save the model to return to the schematic or PCB document.

Remove a custom 3D model

Remove the custom 3D model definition to restore the library definition.

  1. On the Schematic Design or PCB Design Edit toolbar, click Remove Custom 3D Model Remove Custom 3D Model icon.
  2. In the canvas, click the handle of the component with the custom 3D model assigned. The associated 3D model is removed.
