Replace a face

Learn how to use the Replace Face tool to remove faces from a solid body and then trim or extend the body to new face locations (based on intersecting faces, surface patches, or workplanes).

replace face

Replace Face removes one or more Source faces from a body. It then extends or trims adjacent faces of the solid body to the new Target face location. Finally, it creates a new face or faces at the Target location and stitches the new faces to the solid. The target faces you select must completely intersect the portion of the body being trimmed or extended.

  1. In the Design workspace, Solid tab, select Modify > Replace Face replace face icon.

  2. Select one or more faces you want to remove. These are the Source faces.

  3. In the Replace Face dialog, activate Target Faces and then select one or more faces in the model. The target faces indicate the location of the new solid body faces and the extent to which the body is to be extended or trimmed.

Note: The target faces can be planar or nonplanar, and they can be solid faces, surface patches, or workplanes. The target faces must fully intersect and encompass the portion of the body being trimmed or extended. In other words, they must fully encompass the area of the new solid faces being created.
  4. Select OK.
