Divide a face into multiple faces
Learn how to use the Split Face tool to divide faces on a surface or solid to add draft, delete an area, or create features.
You can split faces using surfaces, sketches, or workplanes. Splitting a face can help you isolate changes to an area of a face, which is useful with tools such as Draft or Press Pull.
In the Design workspace on the Solid tab, click Modify > Split Face
.
The Split Face dialog displays.
In the canvas, select a face to split.
In the dialog, click the Splitting Tool field, and then select a sketch, face, or workplane in the canvas to use as a splitting tool.
Select a Split Type:
- Split with Surface Use to project the splitting tool face you select onto the face you are splitting.
- Along Vector Select to define the projection direction by selecting an edge, face, or axis. This option results in multiple divisions if the vector intersects a target face in multiple locations.
- Closest Point Select to define the projection direction as the closest distance between the splitting tool and target faces.
Optionally, check Extend Splitting Tool to ensure the cutting tool completely intersects the faces you want to split.
Select OK.
(Optional) To repeat the tool, right-click and select Repeat Split Face. You don't need to reselect Extend Splitting Tool.
You can continue to edit by using the split as a parting line for draft or by using Press Pull.
