About Mid Span Tap and Merge

You can tap into a span at a point other than the end. For example, you might have an existing secondary line and you need to insert an underground pedestal or secondary handhole. The handhole structural feature (insulator, rack or spreader bar) might contain a device feature (junction or switch). You could then insert a service line or additional secondary line. Snapping ensures that the tap is connected to the segment being tapped.

As you insert features, toggle the tap icon on the tooltip to add or prevent a tap. Automatic tapping is disabled when auto-connect also applies. If the distance between the tap location and one of the segment end points is smaller than the auto-connect distance, Utility Design does not auto-tap the segment.

For the segment and contained duct or conductor (if present), the tap operation adds a structure at the snap point and splits the segment only.

For options related to tapping, see General Layout Options.

If you remove a mid-span tap, you must also remove the structure. You must then manually merge the two segments and their contents.
