To Set Feature Line Elevations From a Surface

Use the Levels From Surface command to assign the levels of a surface to the geometry points of one or more feature lines, plot lines, survey figures, or 3D polylines.

Levels are assigned to each vertex. You can include intermediate level points at any break points along the surface. Levels obtained from the surface are dynamic if the Relative Level To Surface check box is selected in the Set Levels From Surface dialog box.

  1. Click Modify tabEdit Levels panelLevels From Surface Find.
  2. In the Set Levels From Surface dialog box, select a surface.
  3. Select the Insert Intermediate Gradient Break Points check box to insert intermediate gradient breaks where the element crosses surface Triangulation lines. Level points are created at these locations.
  4. If you want the feature line to remain relative to the surface, select the Relative Level to Surface check box and optionally enter a positive or negative offset value in the edit box. For more information, see About Relative Feature Lines.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Do one of the following:
    • Select the feature line or other object.
    • Enter Multiple, and then select multiple objects.
    • Enter Partial, and then define a portion of the feature line to assign levels to.
  7. The feature line is assigned the levels of the underlying surface.
