Heights (PartMaker, Advanced Surface Manufacturing)

Use the Heights page to specify the incremental start and safe heights for a toolpath.

Skim distance — Enter the axial clearance distance (above the model) used by all skim links, or the height above unmachined stock when roughing.

Plunge distance — Enter the distance above the start of a toolpath segment at which to stop a rapid plunge, and to perform a controlled approach to the toolpath.

Incremental distances — Select how to measure the plunge moves and ramp leads. This option is used only for area clearance toolpaths.

  • Toolpath point — The incremental distances used to describe plunge-moves and ramp leads are measured relative to the start of the toolpath segment (current height).

Using Toolpath Point with a Plunge Distance of 2 gives this result:

  • Previous height — The incremental distances used to describe plunge-moves and ramps leads are measured relative to the height that lies above the start of the toolpath segment (previous height).

Using Previous Height with a Plunge Distance of 2 gives this result:

Radial clearance — Enter the radial clearance distance (away from the model) used by all skim links. This option is not used for area clearance toolpaths.

Gouge check — Select to turn gouge checking on or deselect to turn gouge checking off.
