Run Simulations

Predict the stress and displacement effects of building the part with the default lattice; compare with the results for a thicker lattice and a completely solid part

  1. In the Toolbar, click Simulate Component.

    Stress results, default lattice (GPa)

  2. In the Toolbar, FEA panel, click Displacement to see the displacement results for the same model.

    Displacement results, default lattice (mm)

The amount of skin and lattice displacement, close to 1 mm, may be of concern in this model. For comparison, we can readily simulate the use of thicker lattice bars, and a completely solid part.

  3. In the Toolbar, select Create Component > Max to create a model with thicker lattice bars.
Note: The parameters for the Max selection are set in the Properties Panel > Parts tab under mesh 3 Lattice (1.6 mm). Skin - Region2 will not change, as the Max value (0.4 mm) is the same as for Threshold and Min.
  4. Click Simulate Component to see the Stress and Displacement results for a thicker lattice.

    Stress results, maximum lattice (MPa)

    Displacement results, maximum lattice (mm)

  5. In the Toolbar, click Simulate Component > Solid Sim to see the stress and displacement results for a solid aluminum part.

    Stress results, solid part (MPa)

    Displacement results, solid part (mm)
