Playing content on PIX on macOS
Playing content on PIX is as simple as double-clicking on a file. Video content starts playing automatically and a user has a variety of functions they can utilize to maximize their viewing experience.
Select clips to view
Double-click the clip to open it in the viewer.
To view multiple clips, select all the items first, and then click the View button in the top toolbar.
Or, drag the clips you want to view into the bin.
Play, pause, fast forward, and rewind
To play, pause, fast forward and rewind, use the playback controls below the viewer. Or, use the keyboard shortcuts:
Spacebar | Play/Pause |
Command → | Fast Forward |
Command ← | Rewind |
As the clip plays back you will see a counter with the time elapsed in the bottom right corner.
You can also hold the playback head on the timeline and scrub through the video.
Newer macOS applications (2.95+) include thumbnail scrubbing during playback so that you get a live picture of where in the timeline you are headed.
Control playback speed
To adjust your playback speed, use the pulldown menu in the lower-left corner. You can adjust the speed to 1/4x, 1/2x, 2x, 4x, or 6x. Or, use the Command-Shift-S keyboard shortcut to cycle through the speeds.
Adjust the resolution
When additional resolutions are available for a clip, you can choose to view the clip in a higher resolution, or a lower resolution for faster loading. Choose your resolution via the dropdown in the bottom right of the viewer.
*On older PIX 2 for macOS applications, the resolution dropdown choices will be reflected as SD or HD.
Navigate to a frame
To navigate to a frame, drag the playback marker to the desired location on the timeline. To jump to the first or last frame, use the buttons on either side of fast forward and rewind. Or, use the following keyboard shortcuts:
Shift → | Move forward a frame |
Shift ← | Move backward a frame |
Option ← | First Frame |
Option → | Last Frame |
Set IN and OUT markers
To set IN and OUT markers, click the markers button in the playback controls. Move the markers by dragging either end along the timeline. Or, use the keyboard shortcuts:
I (the letter I) | Set IN marker |
O (the letter O) | Set OUT marker |
Command-Shift-M | Toggle markers on and off |
