Upload new media on PIX 2 for macOS
Before uploading to PIX, make sure that your media meets PIX Specifications.
You must have upload permission enabled for you to folders on your project in order to upload files.
Files can only be uploaded to the Files section of your PIX project (you cannot upload media to your PIX Inbox).
If you do not have permission to upload, contact your project’s Gatekeeper.
Uploading your files
When media is posted in your project, it's organized in folders. By default, the files and folders you post inherit the permissions of the parent folder that they are placed in.
You can adjust folder permissions if you want to restrict access to media that you upload by right-clicking on a folder and selecting Show Permissions.
To Upload using Drag and Drop:
- Drag and drop files from your desktop into any folder in the Files section that you have upload access to.
- As you drag the files into PIX you will see the interface highlight green.
- When a folder turns green, you can drop your files in.
Alternatively, you can use the Upload menu to upload files:
- Double click into the folder or subfolder where you want to upload media.
- Go to the File Menu > Upload to choose files from your computer to add to the project.
Or, use the Keyboard shortcut Cmd+U
Tag your files
You may be prompted to Add Tags to your media upon starting an upload.
Tagging provides a fast and easy mechanism to create and apply metadata, improving search results, and content organization. They can be applied to files and folders.
Click the Tags button to show previously used tags. Drag keywords from the list into the Add tags box to tag the file.
When you have added all of your tags, click Upload
Tags are sticky, so the next time you make an upload, make sure you apply the correct tags, or clear previously used tags from the Add Tags box.
If you do not wish to tag your files, uncheck Add Tags.
If you are not able to use or add tags, reach out to your Gatekeeper and PIX Support.
Check your files
When you upload files, PIX confirms whether or not they are "to spec". This is to ensure that the files you are uploading will be viewable across all PIX platforms.
If there are clips in your upload that do not meet the PIX Specifications you may be prompted to skip these files or upload them anyway. If you decide to upload them, they will be flagged, usually by an orange highlight in the Uploads Window.
Files uploaded that are not to spec will be highlighted orange or red in the Uploads Window, and they will also be listed under the Not to Spec tab.
Monitor your upload
You can check the progress of your uploads in the Uploads Window.
As your upload progresses, you will see the gray bar fill with blue. There will be a status displayed directly under the file name.
There may also be an ETA (on average, it will be ~ 10 minutes) displayed. This time is only an estimate, there to inform you that the content is being processed by PIX and will be available for playback once processing completes.
You can cancel, pause, or resume the upload of any individual file from the Actions menu (gear icon). Any files that do not meet PIX specs are listed in the Not to Spec tab.
Processing Messaging during playback
Users attempting to view a newly uploaded file that is still processing for playback in PIX will receive this message, explaining that the file is processing and gives an ETA for when the file will be viewable.
Get email notifications on uploads
You will automatically get email notifications containing the progress of your upload. PIX will let you know which files have been posted successfully, which are in progress and which are queued. You will also be notified if any uploads failed.
Other people may also get notifications when you upload new media. Only people with access to the files via the Files section can receive these notifications.
Contact your Gatekeeper and PIX to set up or adjust upload email notifications.
