The Project BOM view

The Project BOM view displays all items in the currently-selected project. Items are displayed by a string of related icons that represent the item's status, type, and so on. Learn more about the different icons you see throughout the CAD plugin.

Select an item to find the following information in the lower pane:

  • Item View item details displays additional details about the selected BOM item.
  • Documents item_detail_view_-_documents_tab.png displays the item's associated non-CAD documents, design documents, translation documents, and drawings.
  • Preview item_detail_view_-_preview_tab.png displays a thumbnail of the item. Click Download to open the item in your CAD application.
  • Categorization item_detail_view_-_categorization_tab.png displays the item’s associated categories.
  • Where used item_detail_view_-_where_used_tab.png displays all BOMs, projects, manufacturers, and assignments that the item is associated with as well as its ancestors (ie. previous revisions or the items it was created from).
  • Assignments item_detail_view_-_activities_tab.png displays the engineering change assignments (work orders) associated with the item.

Search for an end item

You may search the project BOM for a specific end item using the search bar at the top of the project BOM. Click here to learn how.

Project BOM filters

Product design is a collaborative effort. It is often the case that many different people - potentially working on different projects - will be working on individual parts within the same assembly at the same time. The Upchain Project BOM filters enable you to view the full engineering BOM of a project in different states. These filters are eBOM filters, which means they affect the item versions that are displayed under each End Item.

  • Saved eBOM - Displays the eBOM structure containing the specific item versions with which the eBOM was last checked into Upchain. In other words, the item versions that you added to your cBOM and subsequently pushed to your eBOM using the BOM Anomaly window is what is displayed under this filter. This filter applies to the full Project BOM tree; if you have been modifying the eBOM structure for an item several levels below the End Item, this is updated accordingly under this filter.

Note: This filter behaves the same as choosing the Latest Working filter in the Navigation pane and the As Saved filter for the center view in the BOM section of a project in the Web application. See Explore the bill of materials interface.
  • Working eBOM - Displays the eBOM structure containing the latest item versions of each item in the saved eBOM structure. In other words, this filter begins with the Saved eBOM filter and updates each item to its most recently created item version, starting from the top of the tree and working down. This filter also applies to the full Project BOM tree; all items are displayed as their latest version down the full tree.

Note: This filter behaves the same as choosing the Latest Working filter in the Navigation pane and the Latest Working filter for the center view in the BOM section of a project in the Web application. See Explore the bill of materials interface.
  • The Released eBOM filter displays the latest released version of the End Item, which you can then expand to see the released items underneath it. All other non-released End Items are greyed out and cannot be expanded.

  • The Effective date filter displays the item versions created before and up to the Effective Date set for your project. Any items (End Items and those below) created after the Effective Date are not shown. Note that for the items that are shown under this filter, they will always be the latest version based on their creation date.

Note: If you have not enabled the Effective Date option for this project type, or set an Effective Date for the project, this filter will not be displayed. This filter behaves the same as the Effective Date filter for End Items in the BOM section of a project in the Web application.

With any of the filters applied, when you select an item, the lower pane displays information about that item version including what its latest CAD file version is, even if that file version is not what is saved in the cBOM. Learn more about which file version was saved into its parent cBOM.
