Associate a drawing with its CAD model

When you have attached a drawing to an item and associated the CAD model to the existing item in the Upchain web application, then the drawing is not automatically associated with the model. This is because the web application does not manage file relations in the way that a CAD system does. It may also be the case that the CAD model and drawing are not from the same CAD system.

If the drawing and the CAD model come from the same CAD system and you want the drawing to reference the model, then follow the steps outlined here. This is also required if you want the drawing to be checked out at the same time when the CAD model is checked out.

  1. In the Upchain CAD Plugin > Project BOM view, select the item for which you want to associate its drawing and CAD model.

  2. In the 'Doc' sub-tab in the Lower Pane, expand the 'Drawings' section.

  3. Click the download icon (mceclip0.png) corresponding to the drawing you want to associate with the CAD model.

  4. Download and open the drawing in your CAD software.

  5. In the Upchain CAD Plugin, refresh the cBOM view.

  6. Right-click the drawing and select Check out.

  7. Ensure the checkbox next to the drawing is checked and click the Check out button.

  8. Return to the Project BOM view and select the item.

  9. Download and open the CAD model.

  10. With the drawing open, associate it with the checked-out CAD model.

Note: This step depends on the CAD software you are using.
  11. With the drawing open, refresh the cBOM view. Ensure that the drawing shows the model as its child.

  12. Check in the drawing.

Now, whenever you download or check out the drawing, the model is also downloaded (and checked out if desired). Further, whenever you download or check out the model, you can do the same for the drawing.
