Using Workspaces

For changing layouts, different personas, or workflows, use the workspace rollout. Easily save previously used layouts and quickly switch between them, directly in the user interface.

Note:

With the introduction of pinning modules to the Quick Access Bar in 2024.1, please note that changing to a different workspace resets the Quick Access Bar to that of the saved workspace. Therefore, to save the pinned Quick Access Bar configuration, use Save Workspace As.

Creating a Custom Workspace

Whenever a window is undocked, this customizes the workspace. When you close VRED, if the workspace has not been saved, a warning appears. In this case, do one of the following:

  • To save the custom workspace, press Cancel, then from the top right corner, select Workspace > Save.
  • To ignore the change to the workspace, and keep it unsaved, click Continue.

Saving Workspaces As

Use this dialog to save and rename a workspace.

  1. Click the Workspace field.
  2. Select Save As.
  3. In the Save Workspace As dialog, enter a name for the workspace.
  4. Click OK to save.

Editing Workspaces

Use this dialog to rename a selected workspace.

  1. Click the Workspace field.
  2. Select Edit.
  3. In the Edit Workspaces dialog, double-click a workspace. This makes its name editable.
  4. Rename the workspace.
  5. Click OK to save.

Exporting a Workspace

Use Export Selected to export a workspace layout. Share the .ini file with others.

  1. Click the Workspace field.
  2. Select Export Selected.
  3. In the Export Current Workspace dialog, select a location for the exported workspace and enter a name for the file.
  4. Click Save. Now, you can attach the file for sharing your workspace configuration.
