Working with the project tree

Navigating to and within the project tree

Navigation is usually done by mouse. However, when the project tree is focused, meaning that one of its entries has a dotted line around it, or if at least one of its entries is highlighted in blue, you may navigate within the project tree.

  • Focus the project tree by either clicking in it or using the Tab key to cycle through the Netfabb window elements until a tree item is focused or highlighted.
  • Use the arrow keys no navigate up and down.
  • Use + and - on the number pad to expand and collapse project tree branches.
  • Use * and / on the number pad to expand and collapse all project tree branches under the currently selected branch.

About context menus

Parts, slices, buildrooms, and other objects in the project tree have context menus. For those objects that are visible in the 3D display, they are usually the same as the context menus there, where possible.

  • Access the context menu by right-clicking an entry in the project tree.

To duplicate a buildroom or workspace

  1. Right-click a buildroom or machine workspace to access its context menu.
  2. Choose Clone this workspace.

About part numbers

Parts are assigned a number when they are added to a project. When desired, you can renumber the parts in the project. Part numbers, or part IDs, are used for naming during part export, for example.

  • To reissue numbers to all parts currently available in a platform or machine workspace, right-click the platform's name and choose Renumber parts.
Note: The default platform is simply called Parts.
  • To toggle the display of part numbers, right-click any of the default platforms and choose Show part numbers.

About groups

Groups are useful to perform certain commands on several parts at once.
Note: Only parts and slices can be grouped.
  • Manage groups through the context menu.

To select an entry

There is no difference between selecting an item in the project tree and selecting it in the display.

  • Click on any entry in the project tree to select it.

To select multiple contiguous entries

  1. Select the first entry of the range.
  2. Hold the Shift key and click on the last entry of the desired range. Alternatively, use the arrow keys while holding Shift to expand the selection.

All clicked entries as well as any entries in between are now selected.

To move an entry

Moving entries between sections is one of the key features of the project tree, providing a simple and intuitive way to transfer parts and other working objects between major workflow steps such as slicing.

  1. Click and hold the entry
  2. Drag it to the new position in the tree. A blue line indicates the new position in the tree where the entry is placed when you release the mouse button.
Tip: You can move parts in and out of groups, and also move parts within a group or purely outside a group (eg. for reordering).
