Making notes on PIX for iOS
While viewing media, users are able to make notes on that content. A user can make a note that is linked to a specific frame on a clip. The timeline also displays a marker where any frame or page-specific notes are. Click on a timeline marker to navigate to the note associated with that frame or page.
Display the note toolbar
While viewing a file in the viewer, tap the screen to reveal the notes toolbar in the top left corner.
Tap on the pencil to expose the "Add Text..." field.
Add comments
To add comments:
- Tap the "Add Text..." field to display a keyboard.
- Type your comments.
- Tap Save. Or, add a markup first with the steps below.
Add a markup
You can also add a markup to the file.
To draw markups:
- Tap the shape/swirl icon next to the gear icon, to the right in the "Add Text..." window.
- Choose a shape and color for the markup.
- Tap the swirl or shape icon to hide the color picker.
- Use your finger to draw markup.

When you are zoomed in on an image or PDF, you can tap and drag to reposition the image.
Using Quick notes
If you find yourself making the same comments frequently, you can set up shortcuts for those comments called Quick Notes.
Click the Quick Note (lightning bolt) icon in the top left of the toolbar, next to the pencil (markup note) icon.
If you have not already set up Quick Notes for the project, select +Add a Quick Note. If you have some quick notes already set up, click Manage > on the right.
Create Quick Notes by file type
You can make default quick notes for all file types across the project, or you can make customized quick notes that will be visible when viewing a specific file type: Clip, Image, PDF.
To add a quick note to a file - just click the quick note while viewing and it will attach itself to the current frame.
Attach to frame or page
When you leave comments or a markup on a clip or PDF, your note will be associated with the current frame or page by default.
You can switch the Attach to Current Frame toggle off to leave a general note, or switch it to on (it will turn green) to attach the note to the current frame.
Who can see your note?
Your note will either be private to you, visible to all, or visible to a specific set of users depending on your user settings within the project.
Switch the Make Note Private to off if you would like the note to be visible to others, and switch it on (it will turn green) to make it private (visible only to you). The privacy toggle is directly under the Attach to Current Frame toggle.
Further note visibility customization options are available in our PIX 2 applications. For more information about Custom Notes visibility please contact PIX Support.
Approvals and Declines
Depending on your permissions settings, you may see a checkmark ✓ and X to the right of the Notes icon. Click the checkmark to quickly mark a file as Approved or the X to mark it as Declined.
If this is something you are interested in setting up, please contact PIX Support and check out the Making Approvals and Declines help page.
