Renumber designators in the 2D PCB
Automatically renumber 2D PCB component reference designators to a logical, spatially ordered sequence, e.g. when they've fallen out of sequence following board adjustments.
On the 2D PCB Design toolbar, click Modify > Renumber Designators
.In the Renumber Designators dialog, select your renumbering options:
Location: Select which board sides to renumber: Top
, Bottom
, or Both
.Side Order: Choose whether to renumber from Top to Bottom or Bottom to Top.
Start Order: Choose the starting corner for renumbering components:
- Upper Left
: Begin numbering from the upper left corner - Upper Right
: Begin numbering from the upper right corner - Lower Left
: Begin numbering from the lower left corner - Lower Right
: Begin numbering from the lower right corner
- Upper Left
Order Direction: The direction pattern depends on your Start Order selection.
For Upper start orders (Upper Left or Upper Right), choose:
- Across then Down
: Number horizontally across rows, then move down to the next row - Down then Across
: Number vertically down columns, then move across to the next column
For Lower start orders (Lower Left or Lower Right), choose:
- Across then Up
: Number horizontally across rows, then move up to the next row - Up then Across
: Number vertically up columns, then move across to the next column
- Across then Down
Start Number: Enter the starting number for the sequence.
Exclude locked: Exclude locked components from renumbering.
Group by Sides: Group the numbering by board sides.
Group Numbering: Choose to group by hundreds (100) or thousands (1000).
As you modify renumbering options, the table below will demonstrate how the reference designators will be renamed.
(Optional) Using the Checkboxes you can choose which components you wish to include or exclude. To find components more easily, use the search bar.
Click OK to apply the renumbering.
