Curvature Map Analysis reference

The Curvature Map Analysis tool displays a color gradient on a body to help you analyze areas of high and low surface curvature in Fusion.

Design > Inspect > Curvature Map Analysis curvature map analysis icon

Body

Select the body to analyze.

Type

Select the type of curvature map to display.

  • Gaussian: Displays a gradient as the product of curvature in the U direction and curvature in the V direction.
    • Red, Orange, Yellow: Region has positive curvature.
    • Green: Region is a flat surface in one or both directions.
    • Blue, Indigo, Violet: Region has negative curvature.
  • Principal Minimum: Displays a gradient that highlights the areas with lowest curvature.
    • Green: Region meets Maximum Limit threshold.
    • Red: Region exceeds Maximum Limit threshold.
  • Principal Maximum: Displays a gradient that highlights the areas with highest curvature.
    • Green: Region meets Minimum Limit threshold.
    • Red: Region exceeds Minimum Limit threshold.

Display (Gaussian type only)

Select a display style to apply to a gaussian curvature map.

  • Smooth: Displays a blend between colors.
  • Bands: Displays no transition between colors.

Scale (Gaussian type only)

Specify the scale of the gradient.

Maximum Limit (Principal Minimum type only)

Specify the maximum curvature value in current design units, to highlight in the gradient.

Minimum Limit (Principal Maximum type only)

Specify the minimum curvature value in current design units, to highlight in the gradient.

Opacity

Specify the transparency of the curvature map displayed on the body.

Range: 0-100%

High Quality

Check to increase the display quality of the curvature map on the body.

Note: High quality displays better, but it may impact performance.
