About Editing Parts List Data (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

Once a parts list is created, you can edit the parts list data to suit your requirements.

Some of the typical editing operations are in the following list. Except for sorting and filtering, all modifications are written back to the BOM.

  • Sort parts list

You can sort the entire parts list or selected rows only. You can provide up to three sort criteria. Sorting has no impact on the BOM.

  • Change item number

The item number in the parts list is automatically obtained from the corresponding BOM. You may want to change the item number for reasons such as to reflect the current sort order. You can change the item number of a single row or of a few selected rows only or the entire parts list, if necessary. When you manually edit the item number, the system does not validate it and the responsibility of maintaining uniqueness is yours.

  • Change the value of multiple cells in the same column

You may want to change the value of a single cell or multiple cells at the same time. You can SHIFT-click to select a range of cells in a column and change their values simultaneously with the Set Values toolbar button. If you change a cell that derived its value through a formula to a fixed value, that cell stops reacting to changes in the drawing.

  • Enter or edit a formula in a cell

The ability to edit a formula in a parts list is useful in cases such as changing the value of a cell or rounding off a value for one part only. You can edit the formula directly on the formula bar or you can invoke the expression builder and create the formula in an environment where the system assists you to build the formula.

  • Merge rows

Sometimes, parts marked with the identical Part References show as two separate parts in the parts list. You can manually merge the rows. The system validates the rows being merged and prevents you from merging two different parts (Part References that do not have identical data). It is also possible to split the merged rows.

  • Filter the parts list

You can set a filter and limit the number of items displayed in the parts list. You can set up you own custom filter or select from the following predefined filters:

    • Ballooned - Filters out all items that are not ballooned.
    • Standard parts - Provides options for filtering out all standard parts or filtering out all parts other than standard parts.
    • Parts - Filters the parts list by letting you manually select the components (to display in the parts list) in the drawing area.
    • Sheet - Filters out all parts other than the ones displayed in the same layout as the parts list. This filter is available only in layouts and does not apply to annotation views.

You can add more than one filter to a parts list. Only the parts that meet the criteria of all the filters are displayed.

Note: Due to the associative nature of mechanical structure, filters applied to parts lists in an annotation view affects all part lists created for other annotation views of the same component.
