About the Language Converter (AutoCAD Mechanical Toolset)

The language converter translates text of all varieties, including attribute values, multiline text ( MTEXT ), part references, and parts lists, from one language to another.

This feature is useful when companies exchange drawings between different countries. You can either translate the entire drawing, or translate selected phrases only. The language converter currently supports the following languages.

  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Chinese (Traditional)
  • Czech
  • Danish
  • English
  • Finnish
  • French
  • German
  • Hungarian
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Norwegian
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Slovenian
  • Spanish
  • Swedish

How does the language converter work?

When you activate online translation, AutoCAD Mechanical toolset compares the text in the current drawing, phrase by phrase, against multi-language dictionary files (.mld). When AutoCAD Mechanical toolset finds a match, it replaces the text in the drawing with the corresponding translated text. If it is necessary to translate several files, you may find it more convenient to translate in batch mode.

Typically, all standard phrases used in AutoCAD Mechanical toolset have corresponding entries in the default multi-language dictionary files and translate without a problem. However, the phrases you type may not have corresponding entries and, in some cases, an AutoCAD Mechanical toolset standard phrase does not translate.

What if a phrase cannot be found in a multi-language dictionary file?

If AutoCAD Mechanical toolset cannot find the phrase in the default multi-language dictionaries, it prompts you to type the translated text. Optionally, you can save the translation to a custom multi language dictionary file; typically a file that has the same name as the drawing you are translating, but with the MLD file extension.

In the dialog boxes that appear when you invoke the language converter, you can specify a list of multi-language dictionary files for AutoCAD Mechanical toolset to use. You can compile a custom dictionary of all frequently used phrases (that do not exist in the default dictionary) and use it for all subsequent translations.

Can multi-language dictionary files be edited?

multi-language dictionary files are ASCII text files where text is organized into a grid of columns (languages) and numbered rows for reference. Use Notepad or another text editor to modify a multi-language dictionary file.
