Create a change notice to return items

You may need to return items that have previously been ordered through a change notice (CN). This may happen if:

  • BOM quantities are reduced.
  • Items previously included in the BOM are now marked as 'Reference only'.
  • Items are removed completely from the BOM.

In order to track returned items in Upchain, the item must have an H quantity recorded against it in Upchain. This happens when the item has been involved in CNs in the past that use a workflow that creates the mBOM.

To return an item:

  1. Open the BOM section of the project in Upchain that contains the items you want to return.

  2. Click the more actions more actions icon on either a released item, or any parent-item to released-children that you want to send to a CN workflow.

  3. Select Create > Change notice or Send to > Change notice.

    The newly created CN opens.

  4. Select each part that you want to put through a CN workflow.

For large assemblies, right-click on a table's column header and select Expand all to see all items, subassemblies, and assemblies.

  5. Under R Qty, enter the number of units to be returned. This should be a negative number.

  6. In the top right corner, for Workflow select a CN workflow from the drop-down list.

  7. Select Regular requisition for CN type.

  8. Click Save.

  9. Click Start Workflow.

Note: For the situation where the item has been removed completely from the BOM and therefore cannot be selected in the BOM tree, see this topic on how to manage orphaned items.
