Create a change request

You may send individual parts, assemblies, subassemblies, end-items, and even multiple parts from different assemblies/subassemblies through a change request (CR). The CR workflow determines what the item's status is at the end of the workflow. For example, an item can be Released or made Obsolete.

Important: When sending an item to a CR, all of its child items are automatically added to the CR as well. In other words, if you want to release an assembly, you must release its children before or at the same time as the parent assembly.

While the CR workflow progresses, tasks are assigned to various team members. Any objects, such as documents associated with the item, are automatically included in the CR.

When the CR completes, and if an item in the CR has associated non-CAD documents, then the document's numbering is updated.

For example:

  • Document's numbering before going through a CR: DOC-10054-XX-crankSpecs.xlxs
  • Document's numbering after going through a CR: DOC-10055-XX-crankSpecs.xlxs

You may create a new CR in the Upchain web app, or from the CAD plugin.

Note: Upchain supports only one version of an item within the same CR. You must create separate CRs to release different item versions.

Create a CR in Upchain web

  1. In the BOM table of a project, select the part, subassembly, assembly, or end-item.
  2. Click more actions menu.png.
  3. Select Send to or Create > Change request.

The newly created CR opens and may be found in Upchain, Business Processes > Change requests.

You may proceed to configure any additional settings in the CR.

Items in a CR display a BOM structural lock next to their status in the BOM table and CAD plugins. This prevents any structural changes to the BOM.

Send multiple items to a CR from Upchain web (items from the same BOM)

  1. In the BOM table of a project, hold Shift to select multiple items in sequence, or hold Ctrl (CMD on Mac) to select non-sequential items.
  2. Click Send to CR at the top right side of the BOM table.

The newly created CR opens and may be found in Upchain, Business Processes > Change requests.

You may proceed to configure any additional settings in the CR.
