Insert designs

Learn how to insert designs into an Assembly or Hybrid design in Fusion.

Note:

This workflow is not available for part designs because they cannot contain child components.

  1. Open or create an Assembly or Hybrid design.

  2. In the Design workspace, select Solid > Insert > Insert Component insert component icon.

    The Insert Component dialog displays.

  3. In the Insert Component dialog, navigate to and select the Fusion design you want to insert.

  4. Click Insert.

The selected design is inserted into the current design as an external component and the Initial Position dialog displays.

  5. Position the component:

    • In the canvas, use the manipulators to drag the component.
    • In the Initial Position dialog, enter Distance and Angle values.
  6. Click OK to finish positioning the component.

The design is inserted as an external component. An instance of the external component displays in the Browser. An Insert feature displays in the Timeline. The external component instance is associatively linked to the source design.

Note: If you are using Fusion for education, the latest milestone is inserted. Otherwise, the lastest Version is inserted.
Tip: In the Data Panel, locate and right-click the design you want to insert and select Insert into Current Design. Move the external component to the desired location.
