Attach a translation to an item

Requirements

The item must have a status of Development in order to attach a translation to it.

Note: Tenant Administrators may attach a translation to a Released or Released_External item. No one may attach a translation to an item that has an Approval Pending status.

Attach a translation

You can attach a translation to an item using the Upchain web app. You may do this if the default translations generated by Upchain are not suitable for others in your organization or third parties.

  1. In the project's BOM (bm-upchain-web-mceclip0-02.png) section, select the item for which you want to attach a translation.

  2. Select more actions mceclip1.png > Import > Translations.

    The Add Translations window opens.

  3. Click + Add Documents.

    A file browser opens.

  4. Locate the translation to attach to the item and click Open.

  5. Wait for the translation to finish uploading, then click OK.

You can see that an item contains translations when the icon displayed under the Files column in the BOM table is black translations attached icon.

The translation is found in the item details pane > Documents tab > Specification documents > Translations.

Important: Upchain manages manually uploaded translations as follows:
  • A translation’s version number increments when subsequent translations with the same file name and file extension are attached to the same item.
  • Manually added translations are lost when versioning up the item in the web application. Translations are retained if the item is versioned up using the CAD plugin.
  • Translations maintain their association with an item when the item is released through a Change request.
  • Translations in supported file formats can be viewed in the PDF Viewer.
  • Translations may be attached to items with edit, check out, or eBOM structural locks.
  • An item’s History tab displays a record of when translations are manually attached.
