Manage system workspaces

Fusion Manage Extension

This feature is part of an extension. Extensions are a flexible way to access additional capabilities in Fusion. Learn more.

Note:

Updated features and workspaces described in this topic are being rolled out gradually to customers. Contact your Autodesk representative for more detail.

Within the Workspace Manager, you'll notice that you have two workspaces with significantly reduced settings: Components and Drawings. These are called 'system workspaces' because they are tightly integrated with Fusion and therefore have limited administration capabilities so as not to break that link.

Workspace relationships and attachments

You may find it helpful to create a relationship between the Components and Drawings workspaces. This is because the relationship between a drawing and its model is only captured in Fusion and the Fusion web client, and so by adding this relationship on the Fusion Manage Extension site, that information can be seen quickly without having to switch contexts.

The Attachments tab enables your team members to attach supporting documentation to component and drawing items.

The visibility and functionality of the Relationships and Attachments tabs are controlled by role permissions. Every tab shown on an item in a workspace is controlled by role permissions.

You may already have the Editor [Components] and Editor [Drawings] roles in your site, which already contain the necessary permissions for Relationships and Attachments tabs. Once you assign these roles to groups and then add users to those groups, they'll be able to use these two tabs.

Recommendations

  • Follow the steps in for adding workspace relationships between the Components and Drawings workspaces.
  • If required, follow the steps in to configure permissions to view and interact with the Relationships and Attachments tabs if you do not already have a role to do so.
  • Read through the topics in for information on how to configure role permissions if necessary.

Behaviors

Your site comes with the following default behaviors for system workspaces.

  • The Components workspace uses a script to generate a sequential item number when a new item is created.
  • Similarly, the Drawings workspace has its own script to generate sequential item numbers.

These are both linked to the item numbering schemes you configure in the Fusion web client > Admin pages.

Recommendations

  • Work with the default (pre-configured) behaviors for the Drawing and Components workspaces to avoid unexpected results with item numbering.
