Model Menu

The options available on the Model Menu depend on which type of network is the currently active window.

InfoWorks Networks

Menu item

Description

Model parameters

Contains menu items that enable simulation, water quality and snow parameters to be edited.

Menu Item

Description

Simulation parameters

Enables parameters governing the performance of model calculations during the hydraulic simulation to be viewed and edited. See Simulation Parameters for more detail.

Water quality and sediment parameters

Enables parameters governing the performance of Water Quality calculations during the simulation to be viewed and edited. See Water Quality and Sediment Parameters for more details.

Snow parameters

Enables global snow parameters used for modelling snow fall and snow melt to be viewed and edited. See Snow Parameters for more details.

Large catchment parameters

Enables parameters used for Large Contributing Area Model to be viewed and edited.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan or grid window of an InfoWorks network is the currently active window.

Runoff surface wizard

Displays a wizard providing step-by-step guidance in creating new Runoff Surfaces.More...

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan or network Grid Window of a checked out InfoWorks network is the currently active window.

Calculate ReFH parameters Displays the Calculate ReFH Parameters dialog, used to calculate ReFH Model parameters for selected subcatchments.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan or network Grid Window is the currently active window and there is a current selection of subcatchment objects.

Define branches

Enables division of the network into long sections by setting the Branch ID field of link objects. The Branch ID is a numeric field used to identify to which long section the link is associated. See Defining Branches for more information.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan is the currently active window.

Meshing

Contains menu items enabling meshing of selected 2D Zones and resampling of ground model elevations within 2D Zones.

Description

Mesh 2D zones

Enables creation of mesh elements within currently selected 2D Zones. Choosing this menu item displays the Mesh 2D Zones dialog.

Toolbar: None

Keyboard Shortcut: Ctrl+M

Resample 2D zone elevations

Enables ground level of mesh elements within currently selected 2D Zones to be recalculated from a selected ground model.

Choosing this menu item displays the Resample 2D Zone Elevations dialog.

Assign 2D elements to damage receptors

This menu item is only available if the Risk option is enabled on your licence.

For selected 2D zones: associates 2D elements with Damage Receptors within the zone.

Load mesh job results

Enables loading of successful mesh jobs to the network and viewing of mesh logs. Choosing this menu item displays the Manage Mesh Results dialog.

Histogram for 2D element areas

Provides a histogram of 2D mesh element areas/2D mesh element counts for selected 2D Zones. Choosing this menu item displays the 2D Mesh Element Histogram dialog.

Update from ground model

Enables River Line section data, Storage / Pond Node level-area data, Base Linear Structure irregular crest level data, and Bridge Linear Structure irregular invert level data, to be updated by sampling the current Ground Model. Choosing this menu item displays the Update from Ground Model dialog.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan is the currently active window.

Simplify

Contains menu items enabling automatic removal of pipes that are not significant enough to be included in the model or merging of pipes that have similar properties. See Pruning and Merging for more details.

Menu Item

Description

Refine selection for pruning

Refines the current selection of links and nodes according to the Selection Refinement parameters set from the Simplification Options dialog.

Prune selection

Removes the current selection of links and nodes from the model (the pruned links can still be viewed in the GeoPlan Window).

Re-assignment of subcatchments and allocation of additional storage is carried out according to the Distribution parameters set from the Simplification Options dialog.

Select similar links mode for merging

Invokes Select Similar Links mode.

Click on a link to select all similar pipes in the same run as a chosen pipe according to the Similarity Criteria set from the Simplification Options dialog.

Toolbar: More GeoPlan Tools

Merge selection

Displays the Network Simplification dialog allowing selected conduits to be merged and subcatchments to be re-assigned to the nearest upstream or downstream node.

Keyboard Shortcut: CTRL+F12

Availability: Whenever there is a current selection of more than one link and the cursor mode is currently Select Similar Links mode.

Simplification options Used to set network wide options for Merging and Pruning.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan is the currently active window.

Storage operations

Contains menu items enabling Total Storage, Storage Compensation and Numerical Correction to be calculated at nodes for a selection of conduits.

Menu Item

Description

Total storage calculation

Enables calculation and plotting of Total Storage in the network or in a selection of objects in the network. See Calculating Total Storage for more information.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan or network Grid Window of a network is the currently active window.

Numerical correction

Calculates Numerical Correction values at nodes for the current selection of conduits. See Preissmann Slot and Baseflow Correction for details.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window and there is a current selection of conduits.

Storage compensation

Calculates Storage Compensation values at nodes for the current selection of conduits.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window and there is a current selection of conduits.

Storage options Used to set network wide options for Storage Compensation.

Generate 1D overland flow paths

Contains menu items enabling automatic generation of links and nodes representing the Overland Flow Path, based on a starting selection of existing nodes and a Gridded Ground Model or GIS Background Layer Lines. See Generating Overland Flow Paths for more information.

Availability

From ground model grid

Enables automatic generation of overland flow paths using a Gridded Ground Model. The flow path starts at a selected node and follows the path of steepest descent as defined by the ground model.

Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window and a Gridded Ground Model is loaded on the view.

From background layer lines

Enables automatic generation of overland flow paths using GIS background layer lines (e.g. road centre lines)

Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window.

Geometry

Contains menu items enabling creation and manipulation of polygon and line objects from external GIS data sources and network data.

Menu Item

Description

Polygon generation via intersection

Enables generation of polygons by intersecting subcatchments, existing polygons or data from external GIS data sources. Choosing this menu item will display the Polygon Generation via Intersection Dialog.

Create diagnostic polygons

Enables generation of polygons by intersecting subcatchments, existing polygons or data from external GIS data sources. A polygon theme is applied by default to the newly created polygons so that areas where intersection issues have occurred are highlighted to the user.

Delete diagnostic polygons

To be used in conjunction with the Create Diagnostic Polygon menu item above. Once areas with intersection issues have been identified, use this command to delete all newly created polygons and revert to the original network.

Simplify

Corrects and thins the current selection of Polygon objects.

Thinning is used to reduce the number of object vertices, potentially reducing data size significantly, thereby improving performance.

Correction is used to edit the geometry of self intersecting polygons in such a way that the shape no longer intersects itself.

Choosing this menu item will display the Simplify Geometry Dialog.

Close gaps and overlaps

Closes gaps and overlaps between selected polygons and polyline objects.

Choosing this menu will display the Close Gaps and Overlaps Dialog.

Crop selected overlapping objects

Use this command to remove overlaps between adjacent polygons and ensure that vertices match on common edges and to trim lines against intersecting lines/polygons.

Choosing this menu item will display the Crop Selected Overlapping Objects dialog.

Merge polygons

Enables a pair of polygons of the same type to be combined into a single polygon.

Expand short links

Enables expansion of a selection of links to improve their display on the GeoPlan Window. Choosing this menu item will display the Expand Short Links dialog.

Extend cross sections

Extends a selection of cross section lines by a specified distance or by a specified distance relative to one or more selected bank lines. Choosing this menu item displays the Extend Selected Cross Sections Dialog.

Rotate selected cross-section lines

Enables Cross Section Lines to be rotated by an angle, or perpendicular to a selected river reach or bridge link.

Straighten selected lines

Enables selected lines to be straightened between their start and end points or to be straightened perpendicular to a selected link.

Insert vertices at intersections

Updates existing subcatchments and other network polygon objects (ie, objects that are geometrically represented as polygons in the network) by inserting vertices where intersections occur with either GIS polygon objects or other InfoWorks ICM network polygon objects.

Subcatchment

Contains menu items enabling updates to be made to Subcatchment objects from GIS data and existing data. More

Area take off

Enables automatic calculation of runoff surface areas and the contributing areas of subcatchments using data imported from a GIS. Choosing this menu item will display the Surface Area Take-Off dialog.

Population data from address point counts

Enables calculation of subcatchment population data from a GIS layer containing address point or seed point data. Choosing this menu item will display the Subcatchment Population dialog.

Population data from census areas

Enables calculation of subcatchment population data from a GIS layer containing census data. Choosing this menu item will display the Subcatchment Population dialog.

CN/Runoff coefficient lookup

Enables calculation of subcatchment curve numbers/SRM runoff coefficients from GIS Data. Choosing this menu item will display the CN/ Runoff Coefficient Lookup Dialog.

Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window.

Create dummy boundaries

Creates circular boundaries for all subcatchments that do not have boundary information. The area of the circle represents the Total Area of the subcatchment.

Create within selected polygon

Generates or updates subcatchment boundaries for selected nodes using the Thiessen Polygon method within a selected bounding polygon. Choosing this menu item will display the Create Thiessen Subcatchments dialog.

Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window and there is a polygon selected.

Convert selected channels to river reaches Converts all selected channel objects to river reach objects See Converting Channels to River Reaches for details.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan or an InfoWorks network Grid Window is the currently active window and there is a current selection of channel objects.

River reach

Contains menu items for working with River Reaches.

Menu Item

Description

Build sections from lines Creates river sections for a selected river reach link from all cross section lines intersecting the link.
Build banks from selected lines Creates bank profiles (if they do not already exist) for a selected river reach from selected bank lines.
Create bank lines from section ends Creates bank lines from river section ends.
Build boundary from banks and section ends Creates a bounding polygon for a selected river reach from upstream and downstream river sections and right and left bank profiles.
Build bank connections Updates river reach left bank and right bank connection data fields with the ID of overlapping River Reaches, Storage Areas and 2D Zones. (Each bank can only have one object associated with it as a bank connection.)
Build all Performs all of the above options (Build sections from lines, Build banks from selected lines, Create bank lines from section ends, Build boundary from banks and section ends, and Build bank connections) in a single operation.
Update roughness from roughness zones Updates river section roughness data for a selected river reach from intersecting roughness zones.
Update sections from selected lines

Updates river section data for a selected river reach link from selected cross section lines intersecting the link.

Select reaches mode for merging

Invokes Select Reaches mode.

Click on a river reach link to select all reaches in the same run and with the same bank connection data as the reach clicked on.

Toolbar: More Geoplan Tools

Join selection Displays the Join Reaches dialog allowing selected river reaches to be merged.

Availability: Whenever there is a current selection of river reaches and the cursor mode is currently Select Similar Reaches mode.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window and a river reach is selected.

Inline bank

Contains menu items for working with Inline Banks.

Menu Item

Description

Build inline banks from selected lines Creates bank profile for a selected inline bank from a selected bank line.
Build inline banks 2d connection Updates 2D Zone ID field of selected inline bank with the ID of an overlapping 2D Zone.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window and an inline bank is selected.

Bridge

Contains menu items for working with Bridges.

Menu Item

Description

Build sections from lines Creates bridge sections for a selected bridge link from cross section line data.
Build boundary from section ends Creates a bounding polygon for a selected bridge from upstream and downstream bridge sections.
Insert selected openings into sections Sets bridge section opening data for selected bridges and bridge opening objects.

Availability: Whenever a GeoPlan Window is the currently active window and a bridge is selected.

Risk Model

This menu item is only available if the Risk option is enabled on your licence.

Contains menu items for generating Risk Impact Zone reports.

Menu Item

Description

Impact zone damage receptor count report

Displays a grid view of damage receptor count within each impact zone and a total count per impact zone category.

Impact zone damage receptor area report

Displays a grid view of damage receptor area within each impact zone and a total area per impact zone category.

Impact zone damage receptor value report

Displays a grid view of damage receptor value within each impact zone and a total value per impact zone category.

SWMM Networks

Menu item

Description

Model parameters

Contains menu items that enable modelling options, snow parameters and the network title to be edited.

Menu Item

Description

Title Lets you assign a title to a SWMM network, and to add any additional information about the network.

Snow parameters

Enables global snow parameters used for modelling snow fall and snow melt to be viewed and edited. See the Snow Parameters (SWMM) for more details.

Options

Enables parameters used for modelling to be viewed and edited.
