For Explicit Dynamics or Quasi-Static analysis, specify elements to be deleted from the mesh, using Deletion Criteria.
In the Part tree, right-click the Idealizations node to select Add Element Deletion. The contact logic in Autodesk Explicit can automatically rebuild the surfaces of the model as elements are deleted or eroded from the contact surface. This allows users to model the penetration of one part into another.
Deletion Criteria

Specify the Deletion Criteria on a selected physical property, as follows:
- NEGVOLUME: Delete element if volume becomes negative.
- EFFSTRAIN: Delete element if von Mises strain exceeds VALUE.
- EQPS: Delete element if equivalent plastic strain exceeds VALUE.
- PRINSTRAIN: Delete element if max principal strain exceeds VALUE.
- THINNING: Delete element if the ratio of current shell thickness to original shell thickness is less than VALUE.
In the Idealizations field, select the elements to which the criteria will be applied.
