Steep and shallow finishing (PartMaker)

— Shows the 3D Offset toolpath in the shallow areas.

— Shows the Constant Z toolpath in the steep areas.

Steep and shallow finishing calculates a shallow boundary, and then creates a Constant Z toolpath in the steep areas of a model and a Raster or 3D Offset toolpath in the shallow areas.

Tip: This strategy provides a simple interface for creating toolpaths that machine both steep and shallow areas. The alternative is to create boundaries to define the steep and shallow areas and use different strategies to create the toolpaths for each area.

This strategy supports Boundary curves.

The availability of this strategy depends on the machining function you are using.

The Steep and shallow finishing strategy is available for the following machining functions:

PartMaker/SwissCAM and PartMaker/Turn-Mill

  • Mill XY Plane
  • Mill 5-Axis Plane
  • Mill ZY Plane
  • Mill End, Polar

PartMaker/Mill

  • Mill XY Plane
  • Mill 5-Axis Plane
  • Mill 4-Axis Plane

On the Strategy dialog, the following pages are available for the Steep and shallow finishing strategy:

  • Steep and shallow finishing — The main page used to define a steep and shallow finishing toolpath.
  • Raster —This page defines the raster options for the toolpath.

The remaining pages are common toolpath creation controls.

Tip: Use the Surfacing Defaults dialog to specify the default settings for Advanced Surface Machining toolpaths.
