Spine finishing (PartMaker)

Spine finishing projects a tubular pattern onto the model, which is then machined. The curve that is used as the center of this tube (the focus of the pattern) is known as a Spine curve.

This strategy is useful for machining parts whose natural axis of symmetry is bent, such as bent pipes.

This strategy supports Spine curves.

The availability of this strategy depends on the machining function you are using.

The Spine finishing strategy is available for the following machining functions:

PartMaker/SwissCAM and PartMaker/Turn-Mill

  • Mill 5-Axis Plane
  • Mill ZY Plane

PartMaker/Mill

  • Mill 5-Axis Plane
  • Mill 4-Axis Plane

On the Strategy dialog, the following pages are available for the Spine finishing strategy:

  • Spine finishing — The main page used to define a spine finishing toolpath.

The remaining pages are common toolpath creation controls.

Tip: Use the Surfacing Defaults dialog to specify the default settings for Advanced Surface Machining toolpaths.
