Takeoff Types

About Takeoff Types

Within Takeoff packages, estimators use takeoff types to organize and describe groups of takeoff objects with shared properties. Each takeoff type can include the following properties:

  • Takeoff type name
  • Tool used to draw, count, or select objects on the sheet or model
  • Appearance of takeoff on the sheet or model
  • Optional text description
  • Primary and additional takeoff outputs for the takeoff type. Output details can include unit of measure, any optional cost, classifications, and user-input formulas

When you perform takeoff, you associate a takeoff type with each object you create. Takeoff types and their associated takeoff items are shown in both in the Takeoff Types panel and in the Inventory available in the Takeoff viewer. Learn about creating takeoff types and importing takeoff types to use for performing takeoff.

Takeoff Types Panel

The Takeoff Types panel in the viewer is the tool where you can manage takeoff types for your project.

Takeoff Types shows a list of all takeoff types that are in use for a selected package. Quantity displayed in the list view is the measured quantity of all outputs for the takeoff type.

If you click a takeoff type in the list, the row will expand and show all output for that takeoff type.

When you open a file with takeoff in the viewer, quantities for each takeoff type used on that sheet or model are also listed here.

Classification Filter

You can apply the classification filter to show takeoff types filtered by classification in the Takeoff Types list. In the filter, you can also choose to apply the classification filter to takeoff items shown in the takeoff viewer.

Using the Classification Filter

  1. Select Packages in the left navigation of Takeoff to open the takeoff packages list.

  2. Open a takeoff package, then click the Takeoff Types icon to navigate to the Takeoff Types panel.

  3. Open the classification filter settings by clicking the filter icon.

  4. Select your desired classification filters. When filters are applied, takeoff types filtered by classification will be shown in the takeoff types list.

    Note:

If some takeoff types were previously individually hidden, the filter will override this.

  5. Select Apply to viewer to also see these filtered results reflected in takeoff shown on your sheet or model in the viewer.

You can switch documents and the classification filter will persist. If you change packages, the filter will clear.

Clearing the Classification Filter

To clear the classification filter, click the Clear all filters (X) button beside the filter icon that appears when a filter is set.

Note:

When the filter is cleared, all takeoff types, including those hidden individually, will be visible.

Detailed Takeoff View

Double-click a takeoff type in the Takeoff Types panel to see the detailed takeoff view. In this view, see all available information for that takeoff type, including quantity data.

There are also useful actions that you can take directly from this detailed view, such as viewing and editing takeoff items without opening the inventory.
