Colour Source

Use the Colour Source tool to generate a colour clip, colour bar, noise, gradient, or STMap that can serve as the source for other tools. You can specify the resolution, bit depth, and colour space.

Access To access the Colour Source menu, use:
  • Batch, then select a node from the All Nodes bin.
  • Timeline, then use Batch FX. See Creating Batch FX.
  • Modular Keyer, then select the node from the All Nodes bin.
  • Tools, then select from the menu. See Accessing Tools.
Input This node does not require an input.
Output Result - The generated clip based on the selected source mode.
Indicator The source mode appears beneath the node within the Schematic view.

General Settings

Source Mode option

Select whether to generate frames of solid colour, colour bar, noise, gradient, or STMap.

Select: To:
Colour Generate a solid colour clip.
Noise Generate a monochrome noise clip with a random pattern.
Colour Noise Generate a colour noise clip with a random pattern.
SMPTE Bars Generate a colour bar clip based on the SMPTE standard.
PAL Bars Generate a colour bar based on the PAL standard.
Gradient Generate an horizontal, vertical, circular, or 4-points gradient clip.
STMap Generate an STMap where the default pixel values for the red and green channels are set to 0.0,0.0 at the bottom left and 1.0,1.0 at the top right.

Luminance option

Select whether to apply 75% or 100% luminance to the colour frames.

Resolution Mode option

Select Resolution List for camera resolutions, Adaptive to set the width and height based on the Frame Aspect Ratio, or Scaling Presets for resolution fraction.

Resolution Presets option

Select a resolution. Select Custom Resolution to specify a non-standard resolution.

Adaptive Resolution option

With Width Based on Ratio, Width equals Height multiplied by Ratio. With Height Based on Ratio, Height equals Width divided by Ratio.

Scaling Presets option

Select a resolution as a fraction of the clip.

Width field

Sets the custom width resolution of the clip.

Height field

Sets the custom height resolution of the clip.

Aspect Ratio option

Select a standard frame aspect ratio. Select the Set to w:h option to set the clip to use square pixels. Select Custom to define a custom frame aspect ratio in the Aspect Ratio field.

Aspect Ratio field

Sets the custom render/output aspect ratio. Editable

Bit Depth option

Select the render/output bit depth of clips.

Note: The 32-bit fp option is automatically chosen when you select the STMap option.

Scan Mode option

Select the scan mode of clips.

Tagged Colour Space option

Select a colour space to tag the result with.



Colour Settings

Current Colour

Set the solid colour. Click to open the Colour Picker.



Colour Bars Settings

Softness field

Sets the amount of softness to apply to the colour bar clip.



Gradient Settings

Gradient option

Select whether the gradient uses two or four colours.

Direction option

Select the direction for the two-color gradient.

Circular option

Select whether the gradient circle is framed based on the width, height, or both.
