Burn-in Metadata
Use the Burn-in Metadata tool to burn clip information in the image.
Access | To access the Burn-in Metadata menu, use:
|
Inputs | Front - The clip to burn the metadata on. |
Outputs | Result - The Front clip with the metadata burned-in. |
Batch Workflow
By default, the metadata read by the Burn-In Metadata node comes from the Batch Group/Setup, not from the clip connected to the node.
To burn the information from a clip, you need to propagate its metadata to the Burn-In Metadata node using one of these methods:
- With the Burn-In Metadata node selected, T+Click on the node you want to read the metadata from.
- Add the clip node to the clipboard using the Copy function and then select the metadata to paste from the Paste Special submenu in the Burn-In Metadata node's context menu.
Timeline FX Workflow
The Burn-In Metadata Timeline FX reads the metadata from the timeline segment it has been added to. If the Timeline FX has been added to a Gap segment, then the metadata from the first video segment below is read. However, the source of the metadata can be modified using the Custom Metadata Track.
If audio tracks are present in a sequence, the Audio tracks drop-down button can be used to selected from which Audio Track the metadata is read from. Contrary to the Video control, the Audio Track selection can be made on a Timeline FX basis.
Each Layer added to a Burn-In Metada Timeline FX can read the metadata from four different sources:
- Back: The video segment on the bottom track of the version.
- Current: The video segment on which the Timeline FX is on (or the segment below in the case of a gap).
- Custom: The video segment on the Video Custom Metadata Track.
- Audio: The audio segment on the Audio Customer Metadata Track.
To set the source for the metadata displayed by a layer:
- Select the Information layer from the Add drop-down button at the bottom of the Information list.
- In the Text section, select a Track option.
- If you set Track to Custom, use Custom Metadata Track to select the layer to be the source of that metadata.
To set the source for the colour of the text:
- Select the Information layer from the Information list.
- In the Text section, select a Colour Source option.
- Timeline / Clip: Use the clip's colour.
- Segment: Use the segment's colour.
- Custom: Use the colour button.
To set the source for the colour of the text background:
- Select the Information layer from the Information list.
- In the Background section, select a Background Colour Source option.
- Off: Disable the background colour.
- Timeline / Clip: Use the clip's colour.
- Segment: Use the segment's colour.
- Custom: Use the colour button.
Settings
Note that some tokens and layers are either not available for display, or display different information, depending where Burn-in Metadata is being used.
Settings for the Burn-In Metadata tool differ between Batch and the Timeline. The following documentation presents the controls for the Batch node and for the Timeline FX, as presented in the Effects environment. It is also possible to modify the Burn-In Metadata controls from the Timeline ribbon, on the Timeline tab.
