Work on an engineering project
This template is not currently available for Fusion Manage Extension sites.
Now that notifications have been sent, it is time to start working on your assigned activities.
Claim an activity
When a milestone activity is started, it has a status of Requested. All members of the team assigned to the activity receive a notification to begin work. The activity also shows in their My Outstanding Work section of the dashboard
It is likely that only one person needs to complete the activity. In this case, if you are the person to work on the activity, you must first claim it so that your name shows in the Assignee field.
To claim an activity:
- From the engineering project Gantt tab, click
Preview beside the activity that you want to claim.
- From the Workflow actions drop-down menu, select Accept.
- Optionally, enter a comment, then click Confirm.
The activity now has a status of In Work. Your name now shows in the Assignee column. The activity is removed from all other team members’ dashboards.
See Manage an activity's lifecycle for more information on an activity’s lifecycle.
Work on an activity
As you work on an activity, you can use the Workflow actions to set the progress level as a percentage. This helps the project manager keep track of overall project progress.
- From the engineering project Gantt tab, click
Preview beside the activity that you want to update.
- From the Workflow actions drop-down menu, select the percentage level that you feel accurately describes the completion level of the activity.
- Optionally, enter a comment, then click Confirm.
In the Gantt chart, part of the bar representing the total activity length is darker to visually indicate how much progress has been made on the activity. The progress bar on the activity is also updated with the value that you chose. The parent milestone activity bar is also shows a darker bar to indicate the overall progress of the milestone.
See Manage an activity's lifecycle for the full details of how to work and update progress on activities.
Adjust the project schedule
If the project schedule at any point gets updated, it is important to notify the relevant team members about the changes in the schedule. Updating the schedule and sending notifications populates the Expected Completion column of the Project Schedule section, as the schedule has changed and there are new expectations for completion.
See Plan an engineering project for information on how to update the Gantt chart and send notifications.
Complete a milestone
When all activities within a milestone are complete, you can mark the milestone as complete. This marks all activities within the milestone as complete regardless of what status they had. See Complete a milestone activity for more information on completing activities and milestones.
