Cutting Point dialog (PartMaker)

Use the Cutting Point dialog to specify how you want PartMaker to calculate the Cutting Point for a profile group. The Cutting Point is the point that defines the outside limits of the material to be removed. PartMaker uses the Cutting Point to calculate toolpaths for various strategy types in turning.

To display the Cutting Point dialog, click the Cutting Point button on theProfile Group Parameters dialog.

The following settings are available:

Stock Corner — Select this option if you want PartMaker to place the Cutting Point at one of the corners of the rectangle representing the Stock Boundaries. The corner that PartMaker selects depends on tool location and orientation. PartMaker assumes that no stock has been removed when defining the Cutting Point.

  • Example 1 — Using an OD right-oriented turning tool, PartMaker places the Cutting Point in the upper right-hand corner of the stock boundaries rectangle.
  • Example 2 — Using an ID right-oriented turning tool (Boring tool), PartMaker places the Cutting Point in the lower right-hand corner of the stock boundaries rectangle.

User-Defined — Select this option if you want to define the Cutting Point yourself using the Pz and Px fields. This method is useful if stock has already been removed from the stock boundaries rectangle around the profile that is being machined.

Start at Cutting Point — Select this option if you want the tool to start at the Cutting Point.

Return to Cutting Point — Select this option if you want the tool to return to the Cutting Point when the toolpath has been completed.
