Use the Material Data dialog to view, or change, surface speed and feed information for each machining operation, based on the currently loaded material file.
To display the Material Data dialog, select ToolMinder > Material.
For each material and operation, you enter data by dragging points on the graph. Points are initially positioned on the X axis of the graph.
The following options are available:
Metric — Select this option if you want to specify the tool diameter as a metric value. When this option is not selected, you specify the tool diameter in inches.
Smooth — Select this option to smooth the graph in the dialog. When this option is not selected, points on the graph are connected using straight lines.
Ranges — Click this button to display the Ranges dialog, where you can change the surface speed and feed ranges for the currently selected operation.
Chart — Use these options to select the information you want to view on the dialog as a graph:
- Speed-HSS — Select this option to display the surface speed range for high-speed steel tools, based on the current material. The speed is displayed in meters per minute or feet per minute, depending on whether the Metric option is selected.
- Speed-Carbide — Select this option to display the speed range for carbide tools based on the current material. The speed is displayed in meters per minute or feet per minute, depending on whether the Metric option is selected.
- Feed — Select this option to display the feed in millimeters per revolution or inches per revolution (per tooth for milling), depending on whether the Metric check box is selected.
Operation Type — Select the type of operation to which they speed and feed rates apply.
