Extract Turn Geometry dialog (PartMaker)

Use the Extract Turn Geometry dialog to extract turning geometry from an imported solid model and transfer the geometry into the current Face window.

To display this dialog, select Solids > Extract Turn Geometry from the Menu bar.

To extract turning geometry:

  1. Select the way in which you want to extract the turning geometry:
    • Sectional Geometry — Using this method, you create sectional edges from the solid model at a particular sectioning angle and extract the geometry from these edges.
    • Spun Geometry — Using this method, you extract maximum OD and minimum ID turning geometry by spinning the solid model about the Z Axis. To calculate the geometry, the solid model is approximated by a faceted surface consisting of several planar triangles.
  2. If you are extracting spun geometry, you also need to specify:
    • Tolerance — The maximum deviation of the solid model from the faceted surface.
    • Enable Arcs Fitting — Select this option if you want PartMaker to replace as many lines as possible in the spun geometry with accurate arcs.
  3. If you want to set a specific turning plane angle for extracting the geometry, select the Set Face Plane as option and then enter the turning plane angle in the Turning Plane Angle field. If you do not select the Set Face Plane as option, PartMaker extracts the geometry at the current turning plane angle.
  4. Select the Set Boundaries option if you want PartMaker to reset the current face boundaries to take account of the geometry that will be transferred into the Face window. This includes the Length and the OD of the stock.
  5. When you have set the options for extracting the geometry, use the Preview button to preview the turn geometry that will extracted on the solid model.
  6. Click OK to extract the turn geometry and transfer it into the current Face window.
