Use the Edit Part Coordinate System dialog to set the Part Coordinate System (PCS) before programming in PartMaker using a sold model. The PCS is the coordinate system in which a solid model is oriented.
To display the Edit Part Coordinate System dialog, select Solids > Edit Part Coordinate System from the Menu bar.
The following settings are available:
Part Coordinate System Rules — Click to display the <PRODUCT> Part Coordinate System dialog, where you can view the rules for setting the Part Coordinate System for the model.
Set New Part Origin
Set Part Origin — Select this option to enable the Set Part Origin drop-down list, where you can select how to set the part origin:
- Vertex — Select to set the new origin at the vertex you select from the solid model.
- Arc / Circle Center — Select to set the new origin at the center of the arc or circle you select from the solid model.
- Face Center — Select to set the new origin at the center of face you select from the solid model. The face can be a sphere, torus or a planar face.
- Edge MidPoint — Select to set the new origin at the midpoint of the edge you select from the solid model. The edge must be a straight line.
X, Y and Z — These fields display the X, Y and Z coordinates of the new origin. You can enter the coordinates manually or PartMaker enters the coordinates based on your selection from the solid model.
Set — Click to set the new origin at the point defined by the coordinates in the X ,Y and Z fields.
Align Axis to Selected Edge or Surface
Align Axis — Select to align the selected edge or surface from the solid model with the Part Coordinate System axis (X Axis, Y Axis or Z Axis) selected in this area of the dialog.
Align — Click to align the edge or surface selected in the solid model with the selected axis of the Part Coordinate System.
Transform Coordinate System
From — Select the axis orientation you want to transform.
To — Select the final axis orientation for the transformation.
Transform — Click to transform the axis according to your selections in the From and To fields.
Rotate Part
X Axis — Select to rotate the part about the X axis.
Y Axis — Select to rotate the part about the Y axis.
Z Axis — Select to rotate the part about the Z axis.
Angle — Enter the angle about which the part rotates. Negative values are allowed.
Rotate — Click to rotate the model using the axis and angles specified.
Buttons
Clear All Transforms — Click to clear all the transforms performed on the part since it was imported into the job file and return it back to its original coordinate system.
Undo — Click to reverse the last origin change, axis transform, or part rotation performed on the part.
Close — Click to close the dialog.
