Approach/Escape dialog (PartMaker)

Use the Approach/Escape dialog to specify an approach and/or escape point for a toolpath. Approach and escape points define the location of the tool at the start and end of a toolpath and are used in addition to Lead In and Lead Out moves.

To display the Approach/Escape dialog, select a profile in the CAM Face window and then select Part Features > Approach, Escapeor click in the Face window toolbar.

The following settings are available:

Use Approach Point (A) — Select this option to include an approach point in the toolpath.

Use Escape Point (E) — Select this option to include an escape point in the toolpath.

When you select one of these options, PartMaker makes the button active, ready for you to define the point in either of the following ways:

Note: When modifying an existing approach or escape point, you need to click this button to make it active.
  • Entering coordinate values — If you know the coordinate values of the point, enter these values in the Z and X, or X and Y, fields.

The Coordinates values vary depending on the type of Face window you are using – X and Y coordinates are displayed for a Milling Face window and Z and X coordinates are displayed for a Turn Face window.

  • Selecting the point interactively in the CAM Face window — PartMaker displays the current point in the Face window (see ) and a cross-hair cursor is displayed for you to select a new point (see ) . The Snap Modes toolbar also appears for you to select the snap mode you want to use (see ).

When the cross-hair cursor is at the location where you want to define the approach point, click the left mouse button. PartMaker updates the display within the CAM Face window and updates the coordinate values displayed on the Approach/Escape dialog to reflect your selection:

Close — Click to save any changes and close the dialog.

Cancel — Click to close the dialog without saving any changes.

Apply — Click to apply your changes without closing the dialog.
