Select Tool dialog - Milling (PartMaker)

Use the Select Tool dialog to select a tool of the required diameter for an operation in the current cycle, profile group or surface group.

The settings on the dialog vary depending on whether you are selecting a tool for a cycle or for a profile/surface group.

Selecting a tool for a cycle

When selecting a tool for a cycle, the following settings are available on the Select Tool dialog:

Operation — Displays the type of operation used to machine the hole, as selected from the Operation Type list box in theCycles Data dialog.

Tool Type — Select the type of tools displayed on this dialog. This is available only when using an End Mill operation with a Circle Mill cycle.

Hole Diameter — Displays the diameter of the hole being machined.

Add New Tool — Click the arrow to expand the button and display the options:

  • Add New Tool — Select to create a tool of the specified type. PartMaker displays details of the new tool on the Edit Tool dialog.

Select — Click to select the currently selected tool and close the dialog.

Cancel — Click to close the dialog without saving your selection.

Selecting a tool for a profile or surface group

When selecting a tool for a profile or surface group, the following settings are available on the Select Tool dialog:

Operation — Displays the type of machining being performed by the profile or surface group.

Tool Type — Select the type of tools displayed on this dialog.

Tool Diameter — Displays the diameter of the tool being used to machine the profile or surface group.

Display Tools

  • Matching Diameter — Select to display only tools that match the diameter specified in the Tool Diameter field.
  • All Diameters — Select to display tools of any diameter.

Add New Tool — Click the arrow to expand the button and display the options:

  • Add New Tool — Select to create a tool of the specified type. PartMaker displays details of the new tool on the Edit Tool dialog.

Select — Click to select the currently selected tool and close the dialog.

Cancel — Click to close the dialog without saving your selection.
