Defaults dialog - WireEDM (PartMaker)

Use the Defaults for EDM dialog to specify default machining parameters, when working in PartMaker/WireEDM.

Select Job Optimizer > Defaults to display this dialog.

The following settings are available:

Z Lower Guide — The default distance between the top of the table and the lower guide.

Z Upper Guide — The default distance between the top of the table and the upper guide.

Guide Diameter — The default diameter of the guide.

Wire Threading Time (min) — The default wire threading time (in minutes) to be used in time calculations.

Rapid Feed rate — The default rapid feed rate to be used in time calculations.

Arc Tolerance — The maximum distance between the arc and any line used to approximate this arc. Used in 4-axis jobs.

Glue Stop

Distance From End Of Profile Element — The default glue stop point distance from the end point of the profile element.

Slug Removal in Simulation

User Defined Part Point — Select this option if you want to specify a point that belongs to the finished part. All slug created during simulation that does not contain the user-defined part would be removed.

X — The horizontal coordinate of the user-defined part point.

Y — The vertical coordinate of the user-defined part point..

Approach/Escape Details

Safe Startup Move

  • Full Approach Move — Selecting this option specifies that the length of the safe startup move is equal to the length of the first move in the toolpath.
  • Programmable Length (S) — Select this option to specify the length of the safe startup move.

Two cases are possible when using Programmable Length:

    • An approach point is defined for a given profile curve in the Approach & Escape dialog. If the approach point is located in the middle of a circle, this circle will be considered as a representation of a start-up hole and PartMaker adds the radius of this circle to the Programmable Length.
    • An approach point is not defined for a given profile curve. In this case, the Programmable Length will be applied starting from the first point of the programmed profile curve. If a lead-in was programmed, PartMaker adds the lead-in's length to the Programmable Length.

Circular Move In/Out

  • Insert Tangent Circular Arc — Select this option to specify that:
    • the Lead In arc is inserted before starting to cut a profile, if the approach move is defined in the Approach & Escape dialog; and
    • the Lead Out arc is inserted after finishing to cut a profile, if the escape move is defined in the Approach & Escape dialog.
  • Arc Radius(R) — Specifies the radius of the inserted arc. Autodesk recommends using a radius equal to the wire diameter.
