When using the Profile Group Parameters dialog for a Thread Whirling strategy, the following settings are available:
Strategy — Select the type of strategy to be performed.
Toolpath Options — Select one of the following options:
- No Ramping — No ramping is added.
- Ramp In — The tool ramps into the cut by a position measured by the Diameter Clearance above the thread and the Ramp In Dist. in front of the thread.
- Ramp Out — The tool ramps out of the cut by a position measured by the Diameter Clearance above the thread and the Ramp Out Dist. after the thread.
- Ramp In and Out — The tool performs both a Ramp In and a Ramp Out move.
Thread Height (H) — Enter the height of the threads, as defined in terms of a pitch.
Pitch (p) — Enter the distance between each thread.
Diameter Clearance (Cd) — Enter the level above the first point of the thread at which the tool approaches the thread.
Face Clearance (Cf) — Enter the Z distance in front of the part face to which the tool makes a rapid move before the thread whirling tool feeds moves onto the part.
Acceleration Dist (L1) — Enter the distance away from the start of the thread that the tool needs to accelerate to the speed needed to cut the part.
Ramp In Dist (Ri) — Enter the Z distance at which the ramp-in move occurs before the starting point of the cut. Available if Ramp In or Ramp In and Out is selected.
Ramp Out Dist (Ro) — Enter the Z distance at which the ramp-out move occurs after the ending point of the cut. Available if Ramp Out or Ramp In and Out is selected.
Operations — Select the type of operations to be performed:
- Roughing — This option is automatically selected for profile groups where the Thread Whirling strategy is selected.
Tool ID — Enter the ID of the tool you want to use for the selected operation or click Select Tools to choose a tool from the Select Tool dialog.
When a tool has been selected, you can click the icon that shows a representation of the tool to display the Edit Tool dialog, where you can view, or modify, details of the tool.
Group Name — Enter a name for the profile group.
Select Tools — Click to display the Select Tool dialog, where you can select the tool to use for machining.
