Bar Feed (PartMaker)

Use the Bar Feed Material Control Process (MCP) to feed the bar stock out to a specified position and stop it with a Bar Stop mounted in the turret.

When you select Bar Feed, the following settings are available on the Material Control Process Parameters dialog:

Tool Info

Tool Post — Select the turret where the Bar Stop is mounted.

  • Turret #1 — The upper turret on slant-bed lathes or the front turret on flat-bed lathes.
  • Turret #2 — The lower turret on slant-bed lathes or the rear turret on flat-bed lathes.
  • Turret #3 — The third turret on lathes with three or four turrets.
  • Turret #4 — The fourth turret on four-turret lathes.
  • Tool Head — The articulating (B-axis) tool post. For single-turret lathes, select Turret #1.

Tool No — Enter the number of the tool station where the Bar Stop is mounted. This must be a one or two-digit integer.

Tool Offset — Enter the offset number for the Bar Stop. This must be a one or two-digit integer.

Process Time — Enter an estimate of the time it takes the Bar Stop to move from its safe index position at the start of the process, back to its safe index position at the end of the process.

Tip: Use the Process Table Time Units option on the Preferences dialog to select the unit (Minutes or Seconds) for entering process times.

Position Point

Xr — Enter an absolute X coordinate (measured from the center of the spindle) to position the Bar Stop before the stock is pushed out. If you are using the cut-off tool as the Bar Stop, enter a negative X coordinate to move the cut-off tool insert below the stock diameter.

Zr — Enter an absolute Z coordinate (measured from the face of the part) to position the Bar Stop before the stock is pushed out. For:

  • short parts, enter a value of zero.
  • longer parts, enter a value that is equal to the length of the part to ensure that the stock does not ram into the Bar Stop after the collet opens.

Note — Enter any note you want to be associated with the process.

User Data — Click to display the User Data dialog, where you can specify custom data (known as User Data) for the current Post Configuration file.
